Eugene's toleranceHey. I'm a graduating undergrad and I've received an offer from U. Oregon for grad school. My current environment is very hostile to the LGBTQ community. I was just wondering how U. Oregon's environment is.
After spending four years in NE Ohio, I've decided that a major factor in deciding on a grad school is the attitude towards LGBTQ.
Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Eugene is really LGBTQ-friendly! My boyfriend is from Ohio and he definitely enjoys how accepting people are here. Of course it's not perfect, but it is pretty nice, really.

The University of Oregon has its quirks, but overall it is a fairly tolerant school with some great programming by the LGBTQA. The Eugene community as a whole is also very accepting, and there has been progressive legislation passed on the city level to extend rights to LGBTQ persons. With the rights for Oregonians to have civil unions and equal employment since February of this year, the benefits Oregon, and Eugene, has to offer an LGBTQ person has never been better.
That's not to say it's perfect, but the community here, compared to your depiction of Ohio, will probably be shocking. So come to UO and be a queer duck!
